We will make sure this stage of the purchasing process moves forward successfully and in a way that protects your interests.
Step 5: Survey and Sea Trial
The next step is hiring a marine surveyor to inspect the condition of the boat. It is important to choose a competent surveyor, one who is educated on boat construction, safety and manufacturing laws, requirements and practices. After the survey inspection, a sea trial is done to see how the boat handles while underway. Specifically, the speed and maneuverability of the boat will be tested. You will be provided a Survey Report with an evaluation of the boat’s superstructure, hull, electronics, galley, engines, electrical system, firefighting equipment, and fuel systems and safety equipment. The surveyor’s comments and recommendations are included in the report.
We will be present during the Survey and Sea Trial stage to ensure that any survey issues that arise are addressed and handled properly. We can provide a list of surveyors we’ve found to be the most experienced and knowledgeable in the area, so you are confident that you are getting a competent and thorough inspection of the boat. We will advise on the best way to move forward once the Survey and Sea Trial is completed.
