Please review the following steps along with how SYS can best serve you throughout this process.
Step 1: Choose the Right Boat for You
When deciding to buy a boat, the first consideration should be the type of boat you would like. There are many different styles, equipment, and layouts that are best for certain activities. In order to narrow down your search, here are some important questions to consider:
- For what purpose do you want a boat? Is it for weekend cruising, fishing, living aboard, extended travel, etc?
- What size range will best meet your needs?
- Do you want power or sail?
- How many staterooms would you like?
- Do you prefer a contemporary or traditional style?
- Is there a particular brand you are drawn to?
- Do you want a new boat or pre-owned?
- What is your budget?
Our sales professionals are all skilled yachtsmen, many of which own their own boats with a lifetime of experience. We can assist you in answering some of these important questions in order to narrow down the type of boat that is right for you. We are determined to apply our knowledge, experience, and integrity to find the a boat that is perfect blend of value and quality to meet your expectations.
Step 2: Choose a Broker
The next step is choosing a broker. There are many reasons to choose a reputable brokerage instead of opting to buy on your own. By having a knowledgeable and experienced broker on your side, one that knows the common issues and potential challenges of buying a boat, your best interest will always come first. Learn more about these advantages in detail (linked). The safest manner in which to buy a boat is to be represented by a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB), and better yet, a CPYB who is licensed and bonded in his/her state, such as is required of all Yacht Brokers in Florida and California. This certification reflects the broker’s ability to provide comprehensive advice in all areas of yacht sales, including international and domestic rules and regulations.
SYS was the first in Florida to be designated as an “Endorsed Brokerage” by the Certified Professional Yacht Broker Program and many of a sales staff hold a CPYB certification.
