Rob Welling, Sales Executive

A Sarasota resident for nearly 25 years, Rob comes to SYS with a background as a professional yacht
delivery captain with more than 60,000 nautical miles logged throughout the Eastern and Western
Caribbean, including three Panama Canal transits, and the US coast from Texas to Maine.

Growing up in southwest Michigan, Rob’s love for boats and the water developed at a very young age.
His father was a charter captain and Rob grew up spending nearly every weekend on the waters and
beaches of Lake Michigan with his family.

Moving to Florida in 1992 to pursue a career in the visual arts, Rob graduated from Ringling College
of Art and Design and enjoyed a successful career in the advertising world as an art director and
then Creative Director for several of the area’s leading advertising agencies. But his first love
was never far away, and in 2003 he left the advertising world for the open water.

Since then he has maintained a career as a professional captain, currently holding a USCG Master 200
Ton License, providing yacht delivery, instruction and captain services on a wide variety of
brokerage and private vessels from 40 to over 100′ in length. Rob brings his knowledge, experience
and passion for boats and travel to SYS and their clients across the country in hopes of helping
them discover and achieve their own boating dreams.

Bobby Randolph,

Yacht Sales Associate, Born and raised on the intracoastal waterways of Stuart,
Florida, also known as the “Sailfish Capitol of the World”, Bobby has been boating his entire life.
At the age of 16, he was managing and living aboard a 50’ motor yacht. Knowing his passion for the
water would be his career path, Bobby set out on a quest to start his own charter fishing business.
Through hard work and perseverance, he was able to purchase his own charter sport fishing boat, The
Tidewater, “48 foot pacemaker” at the age of 24. This not only allowed Bobby access to broaden his
yachting skills and business experience, it also taught him valuable lessons regarding maintaining
boats in Bristol condition and the “tell-tale” signs of a well-maintained boat.

He was eventually recruited into the “big league” of sport fishing and captained both custom and
production boats. Competing in the top sport fishing tournaments in the world, running the crew and
keeping meticulous servicing records were all aspects of his daily work. During this time, he also
had the opportunity to understand another aspect of boating…the build. By working as a conduit
between the owner and the builder, Bobby was responsible for making sure that every need was met to
perfection. His most recent accomplishments include 2 boat builds of a 70’ and 67’ custom sport
fisherman.

From the buyer’s perspective, Bobby knows what to look for and what to avoid. From the seller’s
perspective, he knows where there will be added value. He has been honored to work at such an elite
level of this profession and honor and integrity have guided me throughout my entire career. Bobby
is the father of two beautiful little girls and the husband to a wonderful wife, Janis. In their
free time, they spend every minute they can on the open water.

Alan Learch, CPYB, Yacht Broker Associate

With over 45 years experience working in the marine industry, Alan has a very extensive and
impressive resume. A native of Connecticut, Alan moved to
Florida in 1969 and began work with Associated Marine Institutes (AMI) as an instructor and then
later Vice President in charge of new programs and
developing a yacht donation program. After 16 years with AMI, Alan ventured into the world of sales
to become a yacht broker for new and pre-owned
listings with Roger Hansen Yacht Sales in Jacksonville. Over the next 30 years, he worked at a
number of prestigious brokerages throughout Florida.
Most recently, Alan was a broker with Allied Marine and represented large brokerage listings as well
as new yachts from the likes of Pershing,
Ferretti, Riva and Mocchi.

During his career, Alan has been involved with the America’s Cup, the Tall Ships, the SORC, and sold
large and small sailing vessels and power boats as
well as handling hundreds of contributions involving boats, planes, cars and other tangible
property. He is a longtime member of the Florida Yacht
Brokers Association, a Certified Professional Yacht Broker, a member of the National Association of
Underwater Instructors and is on the Board of
Trustees for the Associated Marine Institutes.

Steve Stevens, CPYB, Yacht Sales Associate

licensed yacht salesman has had a long history in boating. Born in Boston,
Steve was introduced into boating at age 2 by his parents who boated up and down the New England
Coast. They owned upwards of a dozen boats from Sailboats to Trawlers. After many years, Steve moved
to New Jersey where he enjoyed boating on the Hudson River, Long Island Sound, and the Connecticut
Shoreline. After graduating from Rider University with B.A. degrees in both Speech Journalism and
Communications, Steve entered into the Insurance Business as a Special Agent with Northwestern
Mutual and Equitable Life Of New York where he spent 21 years in Insurance and Financial Planning.
After living outside of Philadelphia for over 25 years, Steve was seeking a better boating
environment. His true love for boating and cruising the waterways led him to Sarasota, Florida where
he began an 11 year career in Boat sales. Steve worked with one of the largest Sea Ray and Boston
Whaler dealers in the country. His long term desire to assist his Customers in larger yachts brought
him to Sarasota Yacht & Ship in Sarasota, Florida. His passion for boating and providing
exceptional service and attention to his customers is his main focus. He is never too busy to help
guide a current and future boater to satisfy all of their boating desires. Having owned a number of
personal boats himself, he is familiar with all types of watercraft. When Steve is not boating, he
can be found enjoying the Florida lifestyle in and around Sarasota, Florida.

Doug C. Mashke, Jr. – Sales & Service Executive

Sales & Service Executive. Born and raised in Nokomis, Florida, Doug has a
love of the sea unlike any other. For the past 35 years Doug has spent every day either working on
or selling luxury vessels. Starting in 1987, Doug founded and owned Outboard Motors & Marine Parks,
Inc., where he earned his certification from OMC (currently Bom Bardier) and Mercury Marine motors.
During that time, Doug supervised a staff of 20 employees who remanufactured over 400 outboard
motors per year.

From 1996 to 1999, Doug owned Grassy Key Marina in the Florida Keys. This full-service marina offered
boat rentals, boat storage and other services including bait & tackle. Also during that time, Doug
founded and owned Venice Boat World where he and his staff sold new and used Johnson Outboard
motors, Carolina Skiff boats, and many other boats from the world’s premier boat manufacturers. In
the pursuit of continuing his extensive experience, Doug holds his certification as a Yamaha
Outboard Technician.

Over the years, Doug has amassed thousands of satisfied clients who followed him to Sarasota Yacht &
Ship in 2014 where he became Sales & Service Executive. Doug likes collecting rare coins and during
his spare time, Doug goes offshore fishing for grouper, snapper, tuna and any other Gulf of Mexico
game fish. His largest ever catch was a 605 pound Dusky Shark.

Paul Flannery, Director of SYS Palm Beach

licensed yacht salesman Paul is Director of SYS’s Palm Beach office and of
all east coast operations for Sarasota Yacht & Ship. His many years of service, including his former
ownership of Flannery Yacht Sales, provide him with a fantastic foundation to build the SYS brand on
Florida’s East Coast. While he has extensive experience in many areas of boating, in recent years he
has leaned significantly toward the cruising markets. Pilothouse motoryachts, Downeast cruisers and
high end trawlers being the primary focus of his business, he says he still remains close to his
roots in the fishing business.

Paul has enjoyed over 30 years in the marine industry and has been a licensed yacht broker in
Florida since 1992. He holds a USCG 500 ton Masters license, is currently a Board Member and
President of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association and has served as Captain from Portland, Maine to
St. Thomas US Virgin Islands. He owned and operated his own brokerage/dealership/service center for

Jason Mashke, CPYB, Managing Director

up enjoying the beautiful waters of Florida. Jason is a life-long boater, following in the footsteps
of his father Doug, founder of Sarasota Yacht & Ship. As an avid fisherman, spear-fisherman, and

Gary Smith, CPYB, Senior Partner

{certified professional yacht broker} is a lifetime boater, scuba diver and
one of two aircraft pilots within the company. He grew up on the Louisiana waterways where fishing
and living on a water ski is a way of life. Gary is an active alumnus of LSU in Baton Rouge. With
his family as crew he cruised the Bahamas, the Eastern Caribbean and headed as far south as South
America, spending a year cruising aboard the 62′ Motor Yacht, Lady Alistina. This cruising
experience combined with ownership of his other boats allowed Gary to obtain an extensive knowledge
of all aspects of yacht ownership, excelling in full-time cruising and living aboard larger yachts.
He has traveled as far as the country of Turkey for a survey and sea trial, proving that he will go

Christina Smith,

International Promotions, Christina holds a Masters Degree from the
University of Florida at Gainesville. In addition to her international marketing experience, she is
a very experienced boater, living aboard during her childhood and experiencing all there is to love
in boating. Christina represents the company through a number of international channels, including a
great deal of philanthropy work and adventure travel. Most recently, Christina traveled to Nepal
where she worked with a number of organizations to help provide food, medical supplies and rebuild
homes and schools after the devastating earthquake.

Michael Riccio, Marketing Director

With over 15 years of experience in marketing, Michael Riccio started his career in public relations,
business development, destination and brand marketing as well as governmental affairs work in the
Travel & Tourism industry. He is an award-winning veteran of the global luxury real estate industry
with a skill set that includes copywriting, graphic design, web design, SEO & social media
marketing, event planning and management, media planning, strategic business development and market
analysis. Michael oversees all aspects of our marketing program, including print/digital media and
advertising, public relations and events/activities.

Michael holds Degrees in Political Science, International Economics and Sociology from Bradley
University and is an Alum of Pine View School. No stranger to being on the water, Michael grew up on
Florida’s Gulf Coast boating, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, diving and fishing. He is
dedicated to volunteer work with coaching youth sports, working with local charities and is a
Support Member of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association.

Rhiana Mann, Business Manager

Rhiana oversees a number of operations for the business/management side of Team SYS. She works with
our clients and brokers to help with all closing forms, documentation and registrations, ensuring a
smooth and professional listing/closing process. A 15-year veteran of the banking industry, Rhiana
is an integral part of our team and is dedicated to providing the highest levels of customer
service. Rhiana received her education through Career Education International, with a focus on
Business Administration, History and Science.

A native of Guyana, Rhiana originally moved to New York before finding her home here on the
Suncoast. In her spare time she loves to travel and explore hidden destinations, enjoy our local
natural beauty and spend time in and along the beautiful coastline of Sarasota.
